University of Calgary surpasses $1.3-billion fundraising campaign goal

After nine years of fundraising, the University of Calgary is celebrating the end of their largest-ever fundraising campaign having exceeded their original, ambitious goal.

Energize: The Campaign For Eyes High has raised $1.41 billion, surpassing the university’s $1.3-billion goal by more than $100 million.

Nuvyn Peters, vice president of advancement at the university said they have been blown away by support, whose more than 30,000 donors are mainly from Calgary and area.

“It’s absolutely incredible,” she said. “This truly was a campaign of the people, by the people for our community and kind of speaks to that collective ambition and that connection that they feel to the University of Calgary and its importance here in our city.”

Funds from the campaign, whose name comes from the university’s Gaelic motto which translates as ‘I will lift up my eyes,’ have contributed directly to countless initiatives including the Werklund School of Education, the International Microbiome Centre and the Hotchkiss Brain Institute.
