A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for the City of Calgary, with Environment Canada warning heavy rains or hail could hit the area sometime this afternoon.
The alert, issued shortly after 8 a.m. Sunday, said thunderstorms will gather over the foothills near noon before moving east through the afternoon. The risk of severe weather, which could include damaging hail and strong wind gusts, will last until late this evening and is likely to be expanded during the day, it said.
“Very large hail can damage property, break windows, dent vehicles and cause serious injury,” the alert states. “Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches.”
