Rocky Mountain House RCMP have made an arrest after they said a man allegedly pointed a gun at an officer Tuesday morning.
The incident happened during a traffic stop near Cow Lake, RCMP say. A county peace officer stopped the male suspect, who was driving an older model Jeep, at 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday. The suspect got out of the vehicle, grabbed a rifle from the back seat and pointed it at the officer, according to an RCMP news release. RCMP say the officer repositioned and the suspect drove away.

Police had asked for the public’s help in identifying the suspect in a Tuesday afternoon press release. A 47-year-old man turned himself into the Rocky Mountain House RCMP detachment later in the afternoon, according to RCMP.
“The investigation continues this evening,” RCMP said in a news release. “At this time charges have not been sworn before the Provincial Court, identity of the accused can not be provided until charges are sworn.”
Rocky Mountain House is 158 kilometres northwest of Calgary.
