Chief medical officer of health Dr. Deena Hinshaw returns Thursday afternoon for her daily COVID-19 briefing as Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues.
You can watch the news conference live here, starting at 3:30 p.m.
So far, 58,144 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered in Alberta, representing about 1,315 doses for every 100,000 people. But Hinshaw acknowledged that supply shortages would likely become common in the coming weeks. Alberta Health Services has already begun delaying appointments in certain zones due to lack of available doses to meet the province’s capacity.
Alberta’s fatality toll in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic stands at 1,368 lives lost since March 2020.
The province reported 875 new cases on Wednesday, as Alberta’s active infection total fell to 12,838. Of those, 4,752 were in AHS’ Calgary zone.
There were 820 COVID-19 patients in hospital across the province, including 137 in intensive care.
Updated figures are expected this afternoon.
