Sixteen charities in southern Alberta will benefit from the Calgary Flames Foundation’s online 50/50 ticket program, with $1 million in donations to be distributed among the groups.
The contribution is an extension to funds distributed through the foundation’s COVID-19 Community Support Program, which launched in March. The Flames Foundation has donated a total of $2.4 million through the program.
The donation will benefit organizations responding to “essential needs” during the pandemic in food mobilization, grassroots sport delivery, family support services and vulnerable populations, according to the Flames Foundation.
“I know some of us feel like we might be in recovery mode or sort of getting back to a new normal, but the impact is significant . . . on charities and many families and groups in our city and southern Alberta,” said Candice Goudie, executive director of the Calgary Flames Foundation.
