With this year’s festival cancelled due to COVID-19, Calgary Expo organizers aren’t taking any chances with the next edition.
Instead of the usual spring event, the 2021 Expo will be held July 30 to Aug. 2. The dates were announced on the festival’s website.
“We wanted to provide you with an update on Calgary Expo, that was scheduled to take place in April 2021. Like you, we’ve been keeping a close eye on COVID-19 developments and have made the decision to host Calgary Expo from July 30 – August 2, 2021. We’ve secured these new dates so we can gather and celebrate fandom together, safely.”
Tickets will go on sale in the coming months and fans can check the website, calgaryexpo.com, for updates.
“We’re working hard to produce an amazing event and will keep you updated on everything along the way. Thanks for sticking with us through all of this — you are truly awesome.”
This year’s Expo was initially set to run April 23 to 26 at Stampede Park and officials announced in late March that, due to the pandemic, it would be pushed to July. But as that date approached, it was clear it couldn’t go ahead and it was cancelled.
This year’s festivities would have been the 15th edition of Calgary Expo, which is currently the largest fan expo in Western Canada. Actor-director Dave Bautista, Star Trek’s George Takei and a reunited cast of Boy Meets World all were confirmed to attend.
