Man fatally shot in northwest Calgary alley identified, police say

A man who was fatally shot in the city’s Crescent Heights neighbourhood has been identified, Calgary police say.

Following an autopsy Tuesday, the man was identified as Majed Ahmed Zulfiqar, 26, of Calgary.

Police say that on Friday around 8:30 p.m., “unknown offenders” shot into an SUV parked in an alleyway near 301 16th Ave. N.W.

Zulfiqar was shot multiple times and died a short time later.

Police say they believe the shooter or shooters then fled in a vehicle eastbound on 16th Avenue, toward Edmonton Trail N.E.

However, police are looking for further information about the shooting. They’re asking anyone who may have dashcam footage from eastbound or westbound 16th Avenue between 10th Street N.W. and Deerfoot Trail N.E., between 8 and 9 p.m. Friday, to contact the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234.

Anyone with information about the homicide can also leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers

Police say there have been nine homicides this year, with three happening last week.

Police are still looking for information about the fatal shooting of a Grade 10 student that happened Thursday, and have charged a man following the death of a 39-year-old man that happened Friday.
