Calgary police have laid several charges against a former basketball coach after a male teenager came forward with accusations of sexual assault.
The alleged victim — who was 14 years old when he joined the Genesis Basketball League in 2016 — reported to police in November 2020 that he had been sexually assaulted several times by the team’s coach.
The coach befriended the victim and would drive him to school, games and practices, police said Friday in a news release.
The teen was also invited to the coach’s home, where multiple assaults are alleged to have taken place.
Sean Maheu, 38, was charged on Tuesday with sexual assault, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching and sexual exploitation.
He is set to appear in court on March 11.
