Fire crews are responding to a large grass fire along Highway 1 east of Dead Man’s Flats, according to a post from Canmore Fire Rescue.
“Given initial reports, our incident commander has requested additional resources from [Alberta Forestry] and a water tender from [the] Kananaskis [fire department],” reads a post from the fire department.
Josee St-Onge, a provincial wildfire information officer, said the fire is moving away from residences.
“We have three helicopters assigned to the wildfires that have commenced bucketing operations, so they’re dropping water on the fire,” she said.
As of 7:15 p.m., multiple RCMP detachments and fire departments were continuing to fight the wildfire.
